Robberies are quite rare in Alaska, but unfortunately, the incidence of rape is reported to be quite high. Keep an eye on your belongings at all times, and use common sense when walking into deserted or dimly lit areas. Guns are frequently carried in Alaska, so be wary of that fact too.

Alaska Weather

It’s not always cold in Alaska! Tourist season is between June and August when long daylight hours extend till 11 or 12pm.

Depending on which parts of Alaska you visit, you can certainly wear shorts during the summers and even during springtime. The Southeastern climate near Anchorage has pretty mild summers, with temperatures topping out in the high 70s. The Interior climate (near Fairbanks and Denali) can have very warm summers with temperatures hovering around the mid 90s. If you’re on a cruise during the summer, you’ll experience warm, damp weather with highs in the 60s and 70s.

Of course, areas by the coast will have more moderate temperatures and weather than inland areas, and it rains more by the coast as well. However, temperatures fluctuate more wildly inland, so you’ll have to learn to dress in layers and be prepared for any type of weather.
